It was September 4th, 2014. Drew took the Thursday off of work, and I was off the Friday after for her belated Labor Day. Since we never have the same days off, it was a rare opportunity to spend an evening together. I was pushing us to go out and do something ambitious on Friday during the day like the beach. But Drew insisted we focus on having a quiet night in and figure out plans for the next day later.
We decided to get Red Lobster takeout for dinner – I know, not that romantic, but it’s a place we both like and I suspected nothing. After eating we watched the Yankee game (Drew is a big fan) and they won with a walk-off home run. Though we were stuffed from dinner, Drew offered to scoop some ice cream for dessert. He walked in with two bowls of coffee ice cream, and it took me a minute to realize that the handle of my spoon had a ring on it! He asked if I would be his forever, and I started crying – so much that I forgot to actually say yes. I couldn’t believe it, he really did surprise me. He eventually reminded me that I needed to answer the question, which was yes of course!
And instead of going to the beach the next day, we spent the day calling our parents and other loved ones to tell them our wonderful news!
