Because we’ve both been out of our parents’ houses and out of college for several years now, we don’t have much of a need for kitchen gadgets, linens, or other home goods traditionally found on wedding registries. The most important things to us are (in no particular order):
- The experiences we have together: we’re planning a “mini-moon” for right after our wedding and hopefully a trip to Europe in the next year or two
- Buying a house
- Our commitment to the volunteer work we do restoring and preserving old subway cars
If you do choose to give a gift, we humbly ask for your help towards these goals. Thank you!
Give a monetary gift
You can use PayPal to give a gift using your PayPal account or major credit card. We chose not to use a gifting website because they take a larger portion of your gift in fees. Note that PayPal will ask you for a “shipping address” – we need that so we can send you a thank-you card, so please make sure that’s accurate! Any funds you send us would go towards creating memories for a lifetime together traveling to some of the many places on our list or towards our goal of homeownership.
Help us restore old trains
As most of you know, we met on a Lo-V NYC subway car (from 1917!) as it ran a special “nostalgia” trip – so this is one of the first common interests that we bonded over. Very early on, before we were even dating, Drew invited Emily to visit the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT. This is a museum and working historic trolley line where Drew has volunteered for several years that also preserves NYC Subway equipment. Emily immediately fell in love with the place. She even went on to volunteer there herself, most notably creating their new website. A long-term project that we’re both very invested in is the restoration of car 2775, the only remaining AB Standard manufactured by Pressed Steel in the world. This car ran in the NYC subway from about 1921-1969, and after years of sitting idle out in the elements, is in need of lots of restoration work.
You can make a donation in our honor directly through the Shore Line Trolley Museum’s website:
- In the pink area, be sure to note in the ‘To list your gift “in memory of”, “in honor of”, etc, enter here:’ field that this is a gift “In honor of Emily Sharp & Drew Goucher’s wedding“
- In the green area, you must note that your donation is for “Other” and write in “Car 2775” for “Please Describe”. Otherwise, your donation won’t go specifically to restore this subway car.
- Use your PayPal account or a major credit card.
- Your donation will be tax deductible, and you’ll receive a receipt to that effect.
- Please let us know you’ve made a donation – the museum may not always notify us!
Thank you again for your generosity!
